Preposition of place –
Spoken English বলতে গেলে Preposition সম্পর্কে একটা ধারনা থাকা দরকার। তাই আজ আমরা শিখব কিছু Preposition of place সম্পর্কে। এই Preposition গুলি কোন ব্যাক্তি বা বস্তুর অবস্থান সম্পর্কে জানতে বা বলতে আমরা সাধারণত ব্যবহার করি। আজকে আমি এই সমস্ত Preposition গুলির সম্পর্কে একটা ধারনা দিতে চেষ্টা করব। আশা করি আপনাদের খুব কাজে আসবে।
** Around – কাছাকাছি, আশেপাশে, চতুর্দিকে
Is there a post office around here?
এখানে কাছাকাছি একটি পোস্ট অফিস আছে কি?
He made a journey around the world.
They are moving around Victoria.
** Behind – পেছনে, আড়ালে
He hid behind the tree.
সে গাছের পেছনে লুকালো।
He hid it behind the door.
Stay behind me.
Shut the door behind you.
** Beside – পাশে, কাছে, বা নিকটে
I’m walking beside her.
আমি তার পাশে হাঁটছি।
Everybody wants to sit beside her.
Can I sit beside you?
There is a river beside the house.
** Between – দুইয়ের মাঝে একটি বা দুইয়ের মধ্যে বা মধ্যবর্তী স্থানে
He was sitting between Mary and Tom.
সে মেরি এবং টমের মাঝে বসেছিল।
I sat between Tom and John.
** Beyond – পেরিয়ে, কোন বিশেষ দূরত্বের চেয়ে আরও দূরে।
The village is situated beyond the river.
গ্রামটি নদীর অপর প্রান্তে অবস্থিত।
My house is beyond that bridge.
** Below – নিচে
His flat is below mine.
তার ফ্ল্যাটটি আমার ফ্ল্যাটের নিচে।
My room is just below.
A fish is playing just below the water surface.
** Beneath – নীচে, তলায়
They sat beneath a tree.
তারা গাছের তলায় বসেছিল।
The money was hidden beneath the house.
** In – (মধ্যে, ভিতরে) -বড় জায়গার আগে in বসে
The ball is in the box.
I’m in bed.
Stay in bed.
I’m in school.
I am in London.
I live in town.
I’m in the city.
** At – (প্রতি, সম্পর্কে, -তে) ছোট জায়গা বোঝাতে at বসে।
He is at the shop.
সে দোকানে আছে।
আবার
He is in the shop.
সে দোকানের ভেতরে আছে।
Kamal lives at Raypur.
কমল রায়পুরে থাকে।
Note – সাধারণত বড় জায়গার আগে in বসে, আর ছোট জায়গা বোঝাতে at বসে। কিন্তু গ্রামে বা জেলায় বোঝালে in বসে।
** On – উপরে
The ball is on the table.
বলটি টেবিলের উপর।
The book is on the table.
The clock on the wall is slow.
He put the food on the table.
** Above – উপরে, উপর
The moon was above the horizon.
চাঁদ দিগন্তের উপরে ছিল।
A bird soared above.
I saw the moon above the roof.
** Over – উপর, উপরে
The fan is over my head.
পাখাটি আমার মাথার উপরে।
He jumped over the wall.
His horse jumped over the fence.
** Under – নিচে, তলদেশে
We can see things under water.
আমরা জলের তলায় জিনিস দেখতে পাই।
It’s under the chair
It’s under the table.
Tom sat under a tree.
Don’t hide under the bed.
** Near – কাছাকাছি, কাছে, নিকট
We live near the border.
আমরা সীমান্তের কাছাকাছি বসবাস করি।
I live near a dam.
I am near the station.
His house is near the subway.
There’s a river near my house.
** Opposite – বিপরীত, উল্টো দিকে
The shop is opposite the bank.
দোকানটা ব্যাংকের উল্টো দিকে।
The flower shop is opposite the park.
They live in the house opposite to ours.
** In front of – সামনে
There is a lake in front of my house.
আমার বাড়ির সামনে একটি হ্রদ আছে।
The teacher stands in front of the students.
He sat in front of me.
We met in front of the school.
She stood in front of the mirror.
I hope no one sits in front of us.
That bus stops in front of my house.
I got a taxi in front of the station.
Off – হইতে বা থেকে
He jumped off the roof.
সে ছাদ থেকে লাফালো।
